Our School’s Scholars on Elsevier’s 2024 “Highly Cited Chinese Researchers” List
Selection Criteria
Elsevier’s 2024 Highly Cited Chinese Researchers list is based on the following criteria to evaluate the research performance of scholars affiliated with institutions in mainland China:
The scholar must have published research indexed by Scopus, with an institutional affiliation in mainland China, regardless of the scholar’s nationality or ethnicity.
Only research where the scholar is listed as first author or corresponding author is counted.
Research outputs are categorized according to the first-level academic discipline classification system defined by China’s Ministry of Education and mapped using Scopus subject areas. The number of listed scholars in each discipline is related to the number of authors affiliated with Chinese institutions in Scopus for that discipline.
To be included, a scholar must meet all of the following conditions based on their publications as first or corresponding author:
1. Published more than one indexed paper (i.e., at least two).
2. The total number of citations across these publications must meet or exceed the threshold for that specific discipline.
3. The scholar must have at least one publication ranked among the top 1% globally by citation count, or demonstrate a Field-Weighted Citation Impact (FWCI) above 1 across all qualifying publications.
Elsevier’s Highly Cited Chinese Researchers list adopts Scopus, a globally authoritative citation and indexing database, to assess Chinese scholars' research performance. The selection methodology was developed by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy. Since its initial release in 2015, the list has received widespread attention from both domestic and international media and academia.
The 2024 edition of the list includes 6,388 scholars from 547 universities, enterprises, and research institutions.
