Winning the Grand Prize! Advancing to the International Competition! SOA faculty and students triumph at China Finals of 3rd World University CubeSat Challenge

Recently, the China Regional Finals of the 3rd World Student CubeSat Challenge, co-hosted by the Chinese Society of Astronautics and the International Astronautical Federation, were successfully held. Four participating teams, guided by faculty members from our institute and comprising undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students, achieved outstanding results. They collectively secured one China Regional Grand Prize, one First Prize in theDesign & Prototyp category, one Excellence Award in the same category, and one award in the Paper category. Additionally, ten faculty members from our institute were honored with the Outstanding Mentor Award.

Event Overview

The World University CubeSat Challenge is a high-level competition with extensive international and domestic influence. It marks the first international event co-hosted by the International Astronautical Federation and its alliance partners, held biennially since 2021. The competition aims to cultivate innovative thinking among students worldwide, enhance aerospace innovation capabilities, bridge theoretical knowledge with practical application, and strengthen problem-solving skills for real-world engineering challenges. It contributes to popularizing aerospace knowledge and nurturing innovative talent. Sixty teams from 25 universities and research institutions across China registered for the competition. Following preliminary evaluations, 25 teams from 15 universities and research institutions advanced to the China Finals. The competition awarded three China Grand Prizes, four First Prizes and four Second Prizes in the Concept and Physical Model category, ten Excellence Awards in the same category, and four awards in the Thesis category. The China Grand Prize-winning team will represent China in the International Finals. The Grand Prize winner of the international finals will will earn an opportunity for a free payload deployment, either on China’s space station or via a Chinese launch vehicle.
