On June 17, Clarivate released the 2025 Journal Citation Reports (JCR). Electron (Low-Carbon New Materials), an international journal jointly sponsored by HIT SOA and the HIT Chongqing Research Institute and published in partnership with Wiley, received its inaugural Impact Factor (IF) of 15.2. The journal ranks among the top 10% of the world’s 472 journals in Materials Science and 250 journals in Chemistry, placing it in the JCR Q1 quartile for both subject categories. It also achieved the highest inaugural Impact Factor of any engineering journal published by Wiley this year.

Electron (Low-Carbon New Materials) is led by Academician Han Jiecai, President of HIT, as Editor-in-Chief, with Academicians Huang Wei, Yu Shuhong, Gu Ning, and other distinguished scholars serving as Deputy Editors-in-Chief. Its editorial board comprises more than 90 internationally recognized experts, including 35 members of national academies from China and abroad, 27 Clarivate Highly Cited Researchers, 28 Elsevier China Highly Cited Scholars, and more than 10 editors-in-chief or associate editors of leading international journals. International members account for 63% of the editorial board. Responding to the scientific opportunities and challenges arising from the transition toward carbon neutrality, the journal focuses on the electronic properties and behavior of emerging materials. It publishes cutting-edge research on fundamental materials science and device applications spanning energy, environmental science, biomedicine, artificial intelligence, and electronic information technologies. Through promoting interdisciplinary research at the frontiers of materials science, the journal is committed to establishing itself as a world-class flagship publication in the field of low-carbon new materials. Since its launch in August 2023, the journal has published 12 issues and has been indexed in major databases including ESCI, Web of Science, CAS, Scopus, DOAJ, and CSCD. It has also been selected for the High-Starting-Point New Journal Program under China’s Excellence Action Plan for STM Journals. Most recently, the journal was granted a China National Serial Publication Number (CN 23-1630/TB) by the National Press and Publication Administration, officially bringing it into China’s national publishing and distribution system.

Journal Covers
The Impact Factor (IF) is a key metric published annually in Clarivate’s Journal Citation Reports. It is calculated by dividing the total number of citations received in the current JCR year by all citable articles published in a journal during the previous two years by the total number of citable articles published during that same period. The IF measures the average number of citations received per citable article and is widely used internationally as an indicator of a journal’s scholarly influence and research impact.
